DESCRIPTION:

Three 500-gallon capacity under ground storage tanks (USTs) constructed of bare steel and of unknown contents were previously removed from the site of 17730 Dora, Melvindale, Wayne County, Michigan 48122 by another contractor. At the time of removal of the tanks, samples were not collected and analyzed to allow the site to be properly closed according to State of Michigan regulations. Retained by client to properly sample in the former UST excavation cavity.  Prepared a HASP and engaged MISS DIG to demarcate utilities.  Collected samples, properly preserved and submitted them with a trip blank, under chain of custody to an independent qualified laboratory for gasoline and diesel parameters analysis. The samples were collected at either ends of the floor of the cavity within an estimated foot of where the USTs had lain.  I also collected cavity wall samples and samples along the pipe runs. No water in the cavity or at any point during sampling. The analytical data indicated that analytes measured exceeded laboratory MDLs. Informed the client of this and stated that a release should be submitted to MDEQ  and that delineation of the release would have to be performed.  Prepared a Notice of Confirmation of Release for the client to submit to MDEQ.
